Now here is a dumb-ass move....

got on the water EARLY this morning and as soon as I got in the boat I noticed that I forgot my box of decoy anchors (anchors are not attached to decoys). I thought about running home, but decided to tough it out and made do with what I had. I put out a dozen decoys attached to various lines I had in the boat using a boat anchor, a piece of anchor chain and my spare prop. Worked quite a few birds to that spread and took a couple drake mallards home. Dog had a couple easy retrieves. Even got to get checked by the warden on the ramp - a full day.

I'm going to do a little painting (trim, not decoys) and then try to shoot a deer later this afternoon.

And to think,,,,,,,,, your not even retired yet. Who's slipping?[;)]

I forgot the anchor in my canoe once. 10-15 with gusts up to 20...... held my position by braiding 3 decoy lines with strap weights and hooking vegetation.

The original "sin" may have been diagnosed as dumb ass, but your ability to overcome highlights your skills and problem solving ability!

I have to say Tod- sounds like a normal day for my buddies and I.... And you took home some keepers! I think you had a great run.

Gotta say that is the first time I have heard of someone leaving the decoys anchors at home.

Nice rebound though....

Good going, and a reminder that even an ugly rig works. Now to bring the day full circle, instead of shooting the deer, drop the box of anchors on him.

That box of anchors is heavy enough to do some damage - but I don't use lead for ducks or deer. Reason I forgot the anchors was I was taking a few out to lighten the load and got distracted.

Trim is calked and painted. Off to take a shower. this play-by-play social media stuff is great. I'll post a selfie from this step forward.

A selfie huh? Don't let the towel go the way of the anchors.

We all do it. Yesterday we got to the launch and after backing up to launch, putting on waders, all gear in boat and removing tie downs, my buddy went to plug the gas line into the gas tank and realized the gas tank was safe in his garage.

It's okay, man. Everyone experiences being forgetful at times. It can happen to the best of us.

It's only a dumb-ass move if it prevents you from hunting! You had to improvise and still got your decoys on the water and birds in hand. That counts as a win in my book.
