First day hunting 2017

I started off at sunrise today. It was the first day out with the new to me motor. The F50 couldn't turn the same prop that the Pro 50 could. I was unable to get on plane. So I picked a close spot. I busted out 2-3 dozen birds, so I set out decoys. Kodi will be 11 in February. He used his years of experience to do what he is supposed todo... but age didn't not slow down his will, or his ability. Had I shot the girls I could have had a full strap. After the hunt was over, I went back to the landing and switched from a SS 11 1/8x 13 to an AL 11x13 prop... With that, I was able to get on plane. I have lost a little speed with the 4 stroke... but it is quieter... Then canned apple sauce, carrots, and put up some firewood

Looks like a good first day Phil. It's pretty common to loose a little speed with a 4 stroke for sure but yamaha's are super dependable and super quiet . Well worth the loss IMO

Phil,

Nice birds. Do you know what rpms you were getting with each prop? You obviously must have been lugging the motor with the stainless. Might still be lugging a bit with the aluminum. Going to a 11DIA.X11Pitch in SS will raise the RPMs and might even give you a better top end due to the increased RPMs.

I don't Dave. The dealer wasn't sure that my tach, would work, and I haven't had time to set it up and see if it does (or get a new one that will). It certainly was lugging with the SS!

Phil, there is also an adaptor plate in the intake of that engine. The only difference between it and the 60 is that adaptor plate and a slightly different ECU. I pulled the plate out and disconnected it from the battery to reset the ECU once it had more air flow. I'd be interested in your results.

Boat hides well, dog looks great. You can't beat 3 green heads and cutting the girls some slack. Excellent hunt.

Phil,
does your dealer have a contact "vibratach" you could borrow? it's held against the cowling to pick up RPM's.
From experience with a 135 hp, a 21" had higher rpm's and better hole shot, a 23" had rpm's in the correct range and a horrible hole shot but a bit faster top end.

Good stuff, nice to see Kodi back on the job.

Any divers show up yet?

If it's any comfort we were on some very ducky waters this weekend and saw no ducks, just a few colts and a pile of common moorhens. I was surprised, in years past we'd at least have some gadwalls, shovelers and teal by now. But our openers is one month away, lots of time.

It's good to see Kodi still getting it done. My boy Coot is 2 1/2 this season and really showing progress. I hope he can hunt well into maturity as well. I hope your divers show up soon. Nothing better than divers and a brown dog!

Due to work... I miss 2 1/2 weeks of November.. I have from 10/27 -11/5 off . Then the week of Thanksgiving off.. and that will be all of my season. I do hope the Divers are around those weeks.

Coot looks like a solid CBR!

Coot's a big boy at 94#. I have the opposite situation. I get to hunt most Saturdays of the season but seldom two days in a row. I never completely miss the birds but I never get to have a string of good days. Except Thanksgiving, always get Thurs, Fri. Sat. Hope it works out for you! Kodi deserves some good work.
