black and white kinda day. And a little brown too
Shoulda had a limit of bluebills but that single that was gonna come back around didn’t. And I miffed on a gadwall. Got to watch what seemed to be a 1,000 gadwalls pile up on open water out on the bay. For some reason they just weren’t coming on to the flats.

You need a scull boat, its nice being able to play with the untouchable birds in open water.

But for some reason gaddies make me every single time, i need a west coast boat for them
 
Yep and I’ll would work well for them. But they are really easily spooked down here. Weird since guys in Arkansas and the MS Delta think they are easy birds!
 
Carl, it was a black and white day here yesterday, too. The black ducks decoyed beautifully before legal light, but were long gone by the time we could shoot. We did have one suicidal single black duck actually land in the decoys under the bright sun, but we were so surprised neither of us took a shot, and we figured he'd earned a free pass for the take off after landing without us noticing.

Other than that, it was all whistlers. We didn't get the usual cosmic flights where a flock of 10 drakes and a half dozen hens all drop at once, but we had singles and pairs all morning and went home with two drakes each. I also shot my drake hoodie for fly tying, but it dropped close to the edge of the ice and the current dragged it under. I broke a little ice at the edge hoping it would float to the top, but the tide running against the ice edge made it an uncomfortable place to sit in a canoe and hammer on the ice with a paddle. Would have been a dangerous place to send a dog . . . .
 
Sounds like a nice morning, other than losing the hoodie.

If you need a hoodie, I can try to get you one. I normally see a good number.
 
Take a look at the bill on the hen I killed yesterday, completely black, not a spot of blue/grey on it.
Never seen one like that before, anyone else???
