The Long Island Decoy Collectors Association will hold their Annual Show on Saturday, March 3, 2018. As in recent years, it will be from 9 AM to 4 PM at the IBEW Hall - 370 Veterans Highway in Hauppauge (pronounced hop-pog). It is just north of the LI Expressway (I-495), about 45 minutes east of NYC.

As in 2016, this year's Show will feature the CONTEMPORARY DECOY EXHIBITION - an opportunity for today's carvers to show their current work among all of the antique decoys and gunning memorabilia.

Details are at: http://lidecoycollectors.org/2018-annual-show-contemporary-decoy-exhibition/

Carvers have plenty of time - and cold weather - to knock out a few birds for the Exhibition. As in 2016, we have two classes - the Al McCormick Gunning Class for true gunning birds and the Shang Wheeler Heritage Class for more elaborate, stylized decoys.

INFORMATION for CARVERS
can be downloaded as a pdf from the website. It has been mailed out to over 80 carvers. Please contact me if you want to be on the list - or want more information. Changes from the 2016 show include conventional judging (a 3-judge panel for each class) and pre-registration. We want to know in advance of March 3 how many birds to expect - so we can arrange the tables more efficiently.

I hope to see you and your decoys there!

All the best,

SJS

All~

Just a reminder to all of you within driving distance of Hauppauge, Long Island (about 40 miles east of NYC, just north of the Long Island Expressway (I-495). Our Annual Show is this coming Saturday, March 3, from 9:00 to 4:00.

And, if you've carved a bird (or a dozen) since February 2016, you can probably enter the Contemporary Decoy Exhibition. We'll be registering hand-carried decoys between 8:30 and 9:30.

Which exit off the LIE? Not for this year, but, it could happen in the future.
One thing about coming up to the Island, the @#$%#@$%@#$!@TOLLS!! Less to ship UPS. And, now that the pad in Locust Valley is gone, it makes for a bit of a tiresome round trip. I put up with the happening at Jones Beach until they dropped the gunning decoy part of the show. That one was good fun.[;)]
