Out of work early today!

We were let out of work early today so I thought I would make the best of it and head out and do some ducking. The snotty weather and wind that was promised never really materialized, but some birds were moving. The LL Beans did their job and I was able to scratch down a couple black ducks. A few Hoodies buzzed the decoys, but I gave them a pass.
I can't quite figure out the migration this year. I have yet to see the big "red legged" Black ducks or the "big fatty" mallards yet there seems to be a fair amount of birds still around. Hopefully this last week will bring some new birds.

Zane nice hunt. Where are you located? I'm in jersey and just Thursday my brother killed the first big red legged drake black duck of the year and seems a few more small waves of puddle ducks and a TON of Broadbill pushed in before this next cold snap we'll be getting next week. I would think Christmas day and Tuesday/Wednesday we will see another fresh push of birds. A few days after that and they will really start pairing off and get the necessary hormones going to create those red legs we are accustomed to seeing late in the year

Hey Will,
I'm in the Hudson Valley, Hunting the Hudson River. Looking Forward to tomorrow and Tuesday. I took the day off Tuesday to try and take advantage of the storm, hoping it pushed some more birds down.

Good luck to you.

Nice to see you guys up in the northeast enjoying the 2 black duck limits!
We the third one a mallard??

Carl,

I'm certainly enjoying the 2 black duck limit and conveniently we've had plenty of them around this year. As for the third duck question I also at first thought there were 3 ducks in the picture. The head to the right is actually a decoy though

LOL..yeah Carl, I think that is one of the Beans. The storm we had last night brought in some new ducks. My buddy was out today and had an amazing morning aside from a tree branch falling on his truck cap.
I'm off tomorrow and hope the birds stick around tonight. The forecast is for 10-20 Westerly winds!! Oh Baby!

Jack,
She is doing great and getting big! Had her out a few times and she did a great job. I'll get some pictures of her up soon.

Hey Zane,

We are looking at some real cold this week starting tonight, so the mallards should be moving down to you. Still saw lots of birds for this time of year. Love hunting the Hudson, just have to watch for those tsunami waves some of the freighters kick up north of Hudson
