What's on your Work Bench ? FEBRUARY 2018

patrick, your doing good, keep chippin away.

I have a feeling you might have a time getting that bird to float well though. You got a lot of weight up top, especially towards the tail and much less material at water level. Gonna take a heck of a keel.

I'd start using some proven and established patterns and as your skill grows start adjusting those patterns into your own style. Goal is to get a nice simple gunning bird figured out first.

Hopefully I can get it to float, I didn't give that enough thought.
Otherwise I may have an ornament for the top of the mailbox.

Pair of gadwalls I just finished up

First time attempting to carve a Mallard. Been out of the loop a while and getting back in to my passion. I'll have to smooth out the wings as the lack of texture from my Bondo slicked things out a bit. Got a little too aggressive when cutting in the shoulders. Bondo is my friend as I seemed to used a lot of it on this one, lol. I was going to A.S. the primaries and tail but had left over Bondo and said, why not. If it looks ok, it'll be a donation bird.
Critiques are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks guys.

More good advice thank you.
Tried my hand at making a body.
Didn't want to waste the cedar or sugar pine that I have, so I borrowed my lovely wife's cork yoga block.
Thanks Pat

Very cool.
Reminds me of a futuristic Luge Helmet....

Colin~

All I can see is the "temporarily disabled" message from Photobucket. I had been hoping that was because I was in Germany for the past 2 weeks. But - I am home now in NYS but still cannot enjoy your Gadwall.

Any thoughts?
