Epic Canada Goose Hunt.

I hunted an area with a pretty nuisance resident Canada goose problem in Goochland Co. VA. About 200 or so of these delinquent geese were trapped by the Federal Dept. of Agriculture. A USDA leg band, a USFWS leg band and a collar were put on them and they were transported to Pennsylvania and told to Sit, Stay!.

But being geese, it did not take them long before they were right back home and in the morning they would fly out of the swamp to an abandoned golf course, We stood at the edge of the fairway at the woods edge and watched them through the trees as they approached and would figure where they would come over. It usually involved a 50 yard mad dash along the woods, either left or right, depending where they were heading. We tried to get directly underneath them.

We did not overshoot the place so it produced for while. We would pick one out that was wearing a neckband and were rewarded with many bands for many days before we educated them or they dispersed elsewhere. It was good while it lasted and I suspect the feds got some good info on that bunch. I think one day we got 16 bands and 8 collars. It was over in a minute!
