Devlin scaup 18 from aluminum

Good morning, Jesse~

Very cool! I am looking forward to lots more photos - and technical info.

All the best,

SJS

Wow, thats going to be one serious duckboat!
Did you increase the height? Looks kinda tall.

I shortened the plans to 17 foot six and raise the side height to 24 and the Stern because there was only going to be 12 inches inside Freeboard...So I added 8 inches of side height and I have a 90 hp Honda extra long shaft for it

I had a 60 etec in my 16 scaup from aluminum it ran 32 mph 75 and 90 are the same case motor so the calculations from past experience say 90 will be perfect and I spoke with Sam about it and he felt 90 should be fine

I don't have the USCG regs handy... But to be legal, you must be using remote steer. I know that you can not put a 60 tiller on either of those and be legal per coast guard

Tha calculation is length x width x .8 with tiller steering -25

17.8feet long x7 feet wide x.8 equals 99 horsepower -25 equals 74 but that is the formula for a 20 inch transom and I can’t find any information on 25 inch transom unless you can do the coast guard performance corse that is the exception to the rule but since the boat is going to weigh 1000 lbs bare hull and a 75 is the same case as a 90 Honda and I already have a Honda 25 inch shaft that’s what I’m going to use

So...it is also wider than the standard Scaup...or did Sam make the 18 wider than the 16?.... If so... I am kicking myself for not shortening the 18' vs lengthening the 16..

The 18 is 7.5 wide that is why I used it and it is also self bailing .... I just called the coast guard and was told that if it’s my boat built for me by me there aren’t any recourse buy anyone for putting on 15 more hp.....and there is i new weight table coming out in June that should make it legal commercially to sell...

I stand corrected, I had no idea the 18 was so wide or would be so heavy.

Keep us posted on the build, this is one cool boat.

That looks great, good proportions. I think you will be glad you raised the side height.

Not sure if I was right or wrong... But I have always measured the chine for the width for capacity. Certainly you get a different rating by doing this.
