The night before duck season was like Christmas Eve around here many years ago. Being a river town almost every guy was a duck hunter. It really was a big deal at that time in history. There would be night before duck season party's We would get hooked up with the old time hunters. Hear the same stories year in an year out. But begged to hear those same stories the next year. Each year more ducks got killed ,flocks got bigger ,sky got blacker with ducks. But we ate it right up, those guys made duck season what it was. We drank, ate and laughed to much all night. Right up to the nine o'clock party cut off time. Still many guys didn't make it to opening day, the ones that did were so hung over they didn't want to shot. But some how back at the camp they all shot their limits. Somebody always took their ducks home for them. Funny most of them came off the river at the same time as me. But I didn't care, The night before duck season, was a big deal, Stories were told ! most of them not real, You the duck hunter ! know how I feel, good stories good drink, lead to a good meal. The night before duck season was never the same, When steel shot came in, old timers walked away. Some of them past, their young still stayed, The night before duck season is still a big deal. We remember our past, look forward to today, We are now those old times that brighten the days. Of those young duck hunters, that look up to us today.
