When do you start prepping

I start prepping for the next waterfowl season as soon as spring comes, I go out and check my clubs wood duck boxes and my mallard next. Put up new ones take down old ones. Plant waterfowl plants with my son and club members. Do are part to put back into nature. Last few years duck hunting hasn't been that great. So we do what ever we can to try to hold birds when they migrate through. After that I start working on my decoys and boats. I wish I could say I build them but like some of the great artist on this site. But that would be a lie. I wash them touch them up. Put new string and weights on if needed. I always buy something new. Floaters or spinners, I paint my boat ever year, new look with stencils. I work on my floating camp boat. Its a old Long Island clam boat that my friend and his friend built years ago. It sunk two or three times. Not because it not a good boat or safe. Because where we had it on the river. Barges big waves took it out and twisted the anchors. Got it off the mud at low tide and rebuilt the inside a few times. Each time better then before. I just keep myself business a little every free day. I just keeps me in a duck hunting frame of mind.View attachment IMG_20130316_114751.jpg

Starting prepping , repairing, modifying soon as season was over. Building new fold up aluminum dog perch , boarding platform that actually works as compared to the majority of commercial ones available. Used Canoe prep an paint project underway. I,ll Replace woody bx. bedding probably this coming week. In past years one of my bxs with a southerly exposure will usually be occupied very shortly. Last sunday installed a new 4' x 4' dog platform on big perm blind and added door for it from blind.Got a little training in same day.View attachment output.jpg

Your a hard working son of a gun, I like your work style. I'm not much of a handy man like most of these die hards . But you really can't mess up something you cover with grass lol. Thanks for the nice post.

Does one ever really stop prepping for waterfowl season????

Prep changes year to year. Last year I work on a blind that a friend abandoned and said I could take it over. So I made it look more natural with logs and limbs instead of a giant blob of pine trees.

This year I’m working on a depression area next to a pond on my moms land to enable it to be planted and flooded. It’s a not a big area but if it gets done properly then it will yield some good hunts

Always carving decoys to prep for the next season. Also prepping for turkey season now for April, working on a turkey decoy right now.

Sounds like a really nice spot. You make your own turkey decoys. I like to see one if it's ok. Hope everything works out get on mom's land. Thanks

This is the first one I’ve ever tried to make. But it will be wire and canvas which I have done a swan, snow goose and black scoter with wire and canvas so I’ll see how this turns out. I don’t think I will get it finished before turkey season in April.

The hardest thing with making the duck hole is having time to get things done and I’m doing pretty much all by hand. Level out mounds of dirt with a shovel because my uncle doesn’t have time to help or a tractor available to use. But I don’t mind the physical work. I also use a axe instead of a chainsaw to fell trees.

Good Morning Duckboats Forum friends.

I have already started prepping: Removed all batteries from the e-callers, flying machines, Mojo/Lucky Duck spinners and started to plan on new replacement units. Purchased a dz. new floating flocked heads mallards and Texas rig set up. Have pulled all the blinds out of the trailer and removed any stuff that was left in from the pass season.

Started work with my old girl (7) yellow lab with long walks and retrieves to keep her and I in shape. Cleaned all of my duck and goose calls and rearranged the blind bag.

Contacted my farmer friends in Canada to say hello and pass on the dates of our arrival for September/October.

Cleaned all of the waterfowl guns and started to shoot sporting clays.

Lots and Lots of stuff to do with the Special Teal Season only 194 days away.

Problem with getting old (71) time is moving way to fast.
