Clarke Estuary

Hi,
I am lucky enough to have a Clarke Estuary and am using the suggested 15 hp 2 stroke engine, it’s time to replace it but want to use a 4 stroke. Any body using one on their boat? Much difference in performance with 9.9 or 15 other than weight?
Thanks

Sorry, I can't answer the question at hand, but I just bought a real nice used Estuary with a 2 stroke 15 on it and have not even put it in the water yet. How do you like the performance of your 15 2 stroke? This is going to be the loooongest off season ever![frown]

That's an amazing boat, I drooled on one yesterday at a show. He is always quick to correct you that it is a displacement hull when you ask, "does it plain? does it get up and go?" so, I'll ask you guys, I know what a DH is, but.......does it glide? Or barge water? I've never seen one under way.

~9 knots with a 15, ~18 knots with a 25. Probably not going to see a big performance difference between a two and four stroke as the estuary is heavy enough as is.

Hi Mike, it is a 10 for duck hunting, stable, safe, big enough for 5 doz decoys and a dog.
My 15 is done like dinner, I am replacing it and now you can only get 4 stroke engines,

I was more concerned about mounting a heavier engine than performance, not much you can do with a displacement hull. Except that it is stable and safe!
You are gonna love it, if you have the dodger you can stay out in the nasty weather!

Thanks

Paul, From what understand the new all fibber glass Estuarys go 13 knots with a 15hp. They are not as heavy as the wooden decked boats. They do push water but like anything if you put enough stuff in it it will draft more. I talked to him for a while about the new boat that is the same size but rated for 25 hp and 2 persons. Its somewhat like a Garvey hull,he calls it a Hybrid Sneak Boat.

With all the duck and fishing boats I've owned, this is my first displacement hull boat that I've owned, or have been in, except for larger commercial boats.

I'm looking forward to my maiden voyage. I'll wait until the weather breaks here in CT to go for a joy ride. Yes, I have the dodger so I can "hide" when its blowing and spitting out. I'm going to do some long overdue scouting of a couple new areas.

it is a displacement hull, so increasing hp will only try to push the stern thru the bow,
it is made to squat a little and push thru, mine is very sea worthy , it likes 9 knots, and anything more is kind of useless
displacement hulls do just that , they displace water, the amount of water that pushes away and around the hull
also fills in behind the boat. my 9.9 2 stroke is enough power,
and yes it holds a ton of stuff, I actually hunted with 26 goose floaters out of it, and with all that added weight
it still does 9 knots and just rides better with the added weight

that hull is not meant for a 25 hp. IMO it is made to go low and slow. and one of the safest boats I have been on for the size
