On Saturday we had our duck club meeting. Its a small club but we been around for a long time. Its called the Towers Duck Club. It a big piece of land with some waterfront access own by the power company. We have about twenty eight members of all ages. The size membership we could have was told to us by the power company.
Anyway! the meeting was at my house. I have been the President for almost thirty years.
Now I'll get to why I love duck hunting. At this meeting there where young boys 16 years of age and old timers eighty four years young. Still duck hunting by the way. And I got to thinking about why I wanted to duck hunt. It was these guys that got me hooked. The stories that came out of their mouths. Made me feel like that same kid that wanted to start hunting. The young man there were locked on these men's every word. Wishing they could of seen the years pasted. At first I think they thought these guys were just talking out of school. But when one story lead to another they were speechless. Even men of middle ages that have seen some really good hunting couldn't get enough. Stories of all kinds of wetlands that thousand of ducks used. That know houses and business are built on. Then others started telling their duck hunting stories. The fun the memories of the living and the died. The dogs that made the man. The gun that won the west. In this case the Northeast. The different blinds and boat and swamps and rivers hunted. Duck hunting is like nothing else. A sport that you can talk ,laugh, eat ,sleep and still harvest birds. A sport where you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And still love where you are. Its not the Ducks we just love. Its the Duck Hunters and the dogs and the food and the drinks after the hunt. Its the stories. My love for ducking is guys like you. Guys that share the joy of the great outdoors. The joy of our family letting us do what we do, Then passing it down to our children hoping they keep it alive for ever.
Its not the number of ducks in the boat that matter. It what your memories of that day are. That last a life time. Thank you as always . You and a special bunch. God bless
