A Decoy Carver/ Maker

Vince Pagliaroli

Well-known member

This is my dear good friend Clif Kastl, at the Strongsville show this year.

The man that fought for, and birthed, the Pool Contest, at the ODCCA show.

A working man & woman's gunning decoy contest, pure and simple, in inception.

The man that brought Canvas Decoys and their very valuable and historic place, north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

If you make Canvas Decoys, and decoys for gunning, not contests, from traditional material, you owe this man a tip of the hat, and a hearty THANK YOU.

He is an OLD SCHOOL, hard core North Shore Gunner, decoy maker (great gunning minis), fisherman, trapper, outdoorsman and family man.

May God Bless him, & his wife and life partner Audrey.

Audrey has a fine eye for good Decoys and art work as well.

I raise my glass to you both. Salude!

VP

Good morning, Vince~

What a nice tribute!

Someday I'll have to get out there to Strongsville....it's always right after our LIDCA Show - and I'm always played out by then.

All the best,

SJS

You are right up there also my friend.

As one of the young at one time, but now a,"Old Timer" of the ODCCA, and a Pool Veteran from way back.

I wish my wife Mary Lee would have taken your photo as well, but a moving target is tough to hit.[;)]

For a guy under the weather with a cold/flu. You were everywhere, and doing the very good J-O-B, that you always do.

If there is a unsung ODCCA, Super Volunteer, Man of Many Hats & Responsibilities it is YOU. I tip my hat to you as well.

May God Bless You and keep you healthy my friend.

Thank you very much.

I hear thee about being "Played Out", and understand. The time change also really throws a curve ball.

"So many decoys and so little time"

For some reason, we do not bounce back as fast as we used to. I wonder what it could be?

Best regards

Hey, old fella, I am also all in favor of moving the odcca event to AT LEAST St. Patrick's weekend, which is where it was held for many eons. It is really hard for us elderly guys to get our sleep, without being rudely awakened by a horde of young hockeyites.
Was good to have Clif join us for the do a teal thing. As an fyi, we decided on a canvasback for next year.
Always good to see old faces and spend some time engaged in meaningful banter.
Steve, just get in your vehicle and make the trip. Lots of folks hang out on Sunday and leave Monday morning, after they have unwound a bit. BTW, my black duck made it back only two working days after the L I show ended. Many thanks to Jim Hunt for his efficiency.[;)]

I also raise my glass to Clif and his wife and Duane and all the other volunteers that put this show on. It is one of the best shows that I go to. Everyone makes you feel welcome. Vince I wish I could have meet you at the show, but there is always so much going on, next year.

George~

FYI & Confidential: Jim Hunt bailed on the Show in early December. Birds still went to Jim's house, but Craig Kessler brought them to the Show - and Mary Meyer mailed them back.

All the best,

I wish I could have met you as well.

There never seems to be enough time at that show, even when I would get there on Weds. or Thurs., back in the day.

Clif and I talked about how we used to stay up all night long. Going from room to room, to visit carvers and see their work. Of course have some adult beverages, then get a few hours sleep.

Then we would all stumble and grumble early the next morning, into the room where Busick ran the contest for gunning decoys & decorative decoys. Decoys lined the shelves and all over the floor and steps. This was years before the pool contest.

I hear that some folks still keep late hours, working and visiting, but those days are way over for me.

Here's to next year.
