NDR, just it time for St. Patty's Day

Very nice.

I came very close to entering the hops growing business with a salmon fishing friend who owned an orchard that produced artisanal apple varieties (essentially apples that do not ship or store well.). He was going to slowly convert to growing hops vines, but suffered a detached retina which forced him to sell the farm. He now resides in Florida and fishes all year...

That's a neat glass Troy. Where did you have your glasses made?

Long time ago NY led that nation in hops production...

Then Prohibition hit.

Still lots of it here though, but not compared to out west.

Thanks Dani. Here is the website.

The glass itself is priced pretty good but things add up as the process goes on. There is also a set up fee but overall I am very pleased with them. Hoping my clients will be as well.

Big money in hops, we drove through some massive hop farms on the way out here.

Growing hop varieties with known alpha acid content (registered hops varieties) yields a decent income, yes. You need soil pH between 6-8.0 and a 120 day frost-free growing season, with a three to five year start-up window. Domestic hops varieties are slowly making headway in the artisanal domestic brewing market, helped considerably by some bad production and disease issues in the international market.

The hops industry is flourishing here in NW Michigan. Hops farms and production is a booming business here...A lot of demand for our micro breweries.

Being in one of the world's largest cherry and apple producing regions, MANY orchards are being converted to hops or vineyards. The tempered conditions from Lake Michigan and the lack of whitetail browsing the hops has gone very well the past 5 years. Cherries and apples are prone to frost in the budding stage, but I haven't heard or seen frost yet setting the hop's growth back.

Cheers to you wine and beer enthusiasts. Hec, even whiskey is making inroads here!
