Fishing out of duck boat

Does anyone fish out of there duck boat. More of a question for BBSB boat owners. I use to fish out of my
14ft TDB all the time. Just curious
 
I personally have not but don't see why you couldn't. A lot of guys near me seem to do early season perch fishing in the creeks out of their BBSB. I have a 14' Jon and a new to me 12' Higbee. My 14' Jon has a removable blind so that's easily fishable. I would just be careful with the BBSB. They are not really big water boats.
 
Two guys at my club fish the pond with DB. Electric motors only. My boats are a little small for for the bays, I'm a 3xl. If I were younger I would have been in it all the time.
 
I've crabbed out of my 12 -ft sneak box. With a second large adult, I've got to watch burying the bow. Thankfully the folded dodger kept the water out of the cockpit the one time I screwed up.

I used to take my daughters out in the scull boat I'd practice they would fish. Brings back good memories!

I fish out my AA blackjack all of the time in the backwater, it's a great fishing platform in those conditions
 
No reason not to use your duck boat all year long. If I am going out by myself I will take it spear fishing, clamming, crabbing or for just about anything instead of taking my bigger boats. At times I will take it out with just two of us fishing if I am staying in the bay.
Get out and use that thing and have some fun.
 
Last year was my first trolling out of my new to me TDB-17', after installation of some Smith rod holders in the gunnels that hold Bert's Tracks in place with ratcheting Bert's holders. I don't have a downrigger option to achieve depth, so I run a pair of long 45lb copper rods off of boards for deep running baits at 70-90ft. and partial leadcore and straight flouro. rigs to cover the rest of the water column. I had one salmon double down off the southern end of Big Summer Island in a bowl in front of the Poverty Island Light last July. Two strong Chinook on boards running out hot was quite the fire drill for one fisherman! I had the tiller extension on the Honda 50hp. so I just straddled it with my knees to steer while playing fish. Getting the in-line boards unclipped alone was a feat. I've found that, while fishing alone, I am better served to play the fish in to near exhaustion and then grab the spoon in one sweeping motion, lifting the fish in an arc and dropping it on deck.

When I had my Outrage 21' we had a quadruple on salmon for three fisherman. We ended with all four fish in the boat, two in the splashwell, one on the foredeck and one on the afterdeck....and about a half hour of untangling gear, unhooking fish, and reorganizing prior getting lines back in the water.

Boy, do I have cabin fever!

When I fish! I use my outlaw pro 18 . I don't even take the top off. I think the great thing about most duck boats is that they are all purpose. I have had my boat for eighteen years. Never had a problem hunting or fishing in it. I do take the camo off of it during fishing season. I also have a stealth 2000 beaver tail boat its a low profile boat. My son uses it more for fishing then hunting. There are some great all purpose boats out there now days.
 
If I didn't fish out of my canoes, I'd hardly fish at all.

I don't fish out of my MMB sculling boat, largely because I also have a 14 foot Lowe aluminum that is a better fishing platform. Reaching out to net fish over the cockpit of the sculling boat is hard, and the low position makes it much harder to spot rising trout or stripers on the sand flats.
 
Troy, inland lake trout or splake? I can't see enough of them to I.D. accurately.

I still think you should mount a fake 50caliber on the bow to keep your neighbors "honest"! That would be a great addition for the July 4th boat parade!
 
Top fish is a brookie, the bottom is a laker. I think most splake are in the northern part, moosehead area. Jeff may know better than I. I have caught splake before, but again, all up north. That 50 cal is coming!
 
Not sure of the strain. Mousam is stocked with brook trout, brown trout and salmon (and on occasion, I'm sure togue, although the togue have proven to reproduce in the lake on their own). There are also brooks that feed the lake that are brook trout fisheries as well. I'm sure there is a small population of native fish but the lake is heavily fished both open water and on ice. I believe the state considers it a put and take watershed, not expecting any reproduction numbers to help the fishery.

I attached the 2016 stocking list. Mousam Lake is in York County. If you look under Piscataquis County, Ragged Lake, you will see some splake stocked. I did very well ice fishing there this season.
