I have a 2004 2072 sea ark my. It has a two stroke 50hp merc tiller. It’s no speed demon by far but I’ve never once really felt that I was in trouble or under powered. The boat has been in big water numerous times. All I see is guys saying go big as you can for hp. I have zero need to go 40-50 mph in a flat bottom jon boat.i don’t like a console in my rig because it takes up to much room.i also have 3 batteries behind my seat( I have a 80#thrust transom trolling motor) plus a gas tank. The Yamaha f70 seems pretty lightweight and I’m curious as to everyone else’s opinion. Am I crazy for not wanting all that weight on my transom?
Thanks

When I bought my 2072 seaark duckhawk jon I considered same thing. I ended up going with the 90 etec as compared with 4 strokes at that time the etec being built on a 70 frame was much lighter. I,ve never lacked for power even fully loaded with 5 hunters and a lab during duck season. Also have a full rollup grassed blind on boat and of course decoys. It will run about 35 with that load. I do on occasion have to pole this boat around in skinny water and or drag it around so was looking at reduceing transom weight as much as possible. With just 2 adults and full 12 gallon tank boat will run about 38. I have a side console on mine . Floats in about 8" water. Friend of mine with 2472 seaark jon with cabin and 115 merc 4 stroke runs in low 40,s but hull will float in about same water as mine. If your stuck on using a tiller motor I think merc makes a biger tiller motor but not sure of weight.
