Strange where a couple water lilies can lead your mind...

Walking past my goldfish pond I noticed several nice blooms. Then suddenly I am reminded of one of our long passed friends.
A little 'find the snake' photo for Lee Harker.

It's a strange time we live in....much more good than bad.

You are correct n your opening statement.

I am reminded of my parents. My father execs never one to shower my mother with gifts of flowers, jewelry or candies, but yet whenever he came across a pretty water lilly, he would carefully pick and preserve it to give to her. Never being the romantic type from my perspective, this little gesture always remained in my memory box, and I think about it whenever I see one.

Rhizomes are an edible tubor...not bad when boiled. Just wash them thoroughly and then peel off the exterior bark-like skin, dice and boil. Obviously, you should seek a source water quality that is good, prior harvest.

Beautiful. Family minus me is at Pickerel lake this weekend. You been fishing up that way yet this year Tim?

Nope, I haven't fished too much this year. Only a little local crappie fishing. My brother, some friends and nephews went up to Webster over memorial day. They did ok on Bitter.

I always wax nostalgic when I see wetland vegetation that is both good to eat and interesting to study. I've even used some chopped-up water lily rhizomes to float turtle traps to ensure the snapping turtles captured had access to air after the swam inside them.

First thought, The Water Lilies, 1919, by Claude Monet, one in a series of his Water Lilies paintings.

Second thought, bass fishin' with a fly rod... Sliding a popper off of the pads, and waiting for it to disappear.

Cannot think of one without the other.
