Equipment restoration- how to remove rivits on name plates?

So I am going to sand blast and paint an old jointer I have been using for a long time. I want to remove and re attach the name plates once I am done, how?

Grinder is to error prone, thinking a small chisel will remove the rivet, then drill the remaining portion out, do my clean up and then rivet it back together, however, where do I get rivets? These aren't pop rivets from a hardware store, solid?

Will attach photos later if I can figure that out now that I no longer have a photobucket account.

Thanks

Take a dremel tool with a cut off wheel and grind a slot like a flathead screw. Then twist them out with a screwdriver. Be aware the steel they use in those things is HARD. If you can't get it to back out you will need to grind it flush.
