HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

Even this little lady was excited for the first day of summer (well almost first day). She was getting to go back home to the ocean after doing some time in rehab from swallowing a fishing hook and supposedly being nibbled on by a shark. She is a juvenile Kemps Ridley sea turtle. I went yesterday afternoon to watch a release of 3 juvenile Kemps Ridley sea turtles. I hadn't ever had the chance to see a Ridley so this was really cool for me.

Do a stump dance tonight y'all. We're on the downhill slide of the year and heading towards hunting season (which will start here in August in FL with alligators yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay).

No stump dancin' for me tonight. I'll be fly fishin' during the longest day of the year, it's tradition.

Interesting about the turtle, very cool indeed.

One of the local papers today have a photo of a Timber Rattler curled up on a vehicle engine. The NY DEC came to the rescue. Good looking mature snake. That's pretty exotic for up here.

Folks here are already in the "gotta get wood for winter" mode. Everywhere ya look there are pick ups full of split wood. Winter permeates every month of the year here one way or the other.

As much as I like fall and hunting season. I do not look forward to the days getting shorter, and hibernation time getting longer.

Make hay while the sun shines, and everyone have a good Summer,.

Days may get shorter from here on out but its only gonna get hotter until mid-September!!

I dislike summer.....

Happy summer!
Pretty cool that you got to see those turtles released.

My first day of summer has been spent dealing with 5+ inches of rain. My optimism for this falls pheasant season is taking a hit. We had been having a very good spring but all that changed. Locally we have little CRP and most of that is in low lying areas that are now probably flooded. 5" may not sound like a lot for those farther east but here that is a dangerous amount. It will take time to drain off. I hope some chicks will make it through this.

First fire flies of the year here last night--right on time.

Time for at-dark mayfly hatches on my trout ponds--I may need to schedule a Saturday night trip this weekend.

Time to head south, where it's winter, the ducks are flying, and drains go in reverse! Couple of the folks who post here will also be making the trip! [angelic]

3” of rain here in northeast NC with more expected every night. Fireflies have been in full swing for a month. The sunflowers are blooming the cabbage and potatoes are being harvested, wheat fields being burned and the white perch are biting. And there is more 90+ degree weather forecasted the next week, blah I want the freezing temps back but the long days are nice.

I want to go to the OBX and see the turtles hatching one day, probably not this year, my wife is having her own turtle hatching in August (our 2nd child).

Vince two of the guys I work with eat altoids everyday, I might have to get their empty cans
