Source/Grit of Aluminum Oxide for strop?

I acquired some decent carving knifes at an auction. John Bourbon touched them up for me, but I will need to maintain them. I ordered a strop, but understand I need some aluminum oxide for the strop? I am told a little goes a long way, so what do I need? What is the appropriate grit size for maintaining decent carving blades?

I have some stropping compound, actually a hunk that Paul Rutgers broke off of his. I think most of these now are a combination of Aluminum and Chrome oxides. A little does go a long ways, I'd guess this 6 oz package is a lifetime supply:

I got mine from Knotts Knives. I know there are several pastes from companies like FlexCut, etc. that I have read good things about as well.
