BBIII,,, another mod and an update

Good morning gentlemen (and ladies),

I use my BBIII as an all around boat. This means I prefer to run with two batteries. One battery to start the engine and power lights and electronics. A second battery to power the trolling motor. The hull was built with a shelf big enough to handle only one battery. So I remodeled it to accommodate two batteries. Sorry the one photo is upside down.

As a follow up to the previous mods done to the hull: Working on the hull sporadically for several weeks I finally got my BBIII back out on the river. Trimmed motor well corners, result = motor can now be run in any pin position and in shallow water drive mode with out hitting the hull, works great. Wedges added 11/32 thick, result = no porpoising and it jumps right up on plane much quicker. Even saw an increase in top end speed. Handling in the turns was also improved. Before wedges, the hull would want to settle a bit in a sharp or even moderate turn. Now with the wedge lift, the hull stays up on plane and "carves" a nice smooth turn. I am very pleased with these results.

Dave,
It sounds like you have the perfect boat now.

Now further need to wish for anything.

Until the next best thing comes along.

I enjoyed reading about your successful project.

Larry,

I look at my boats, the same way my wife describes me; "A work in progress." [;)]

I think one of the traits that we all share as duck hunters, is the "I can make it better" mindset. Some of us do it for our profession, but We tend to be engineers at heart.

Nice clean and functional lay out Dave.

Brad,

Thanks, The shelf has been epoxied in and everything fits like a glove. Trust me, I doubled checked everything before permanently making it a part of the hull.

Taking my 7 year old grandson out in it tomorrow for his first "on plane" boat ride. We will see if he approves. [sly] He has fished from my other, ( larger deeper) boat already, but we've only fished small ponds using the trolling motor. Tomorrow will be a new experience for him.

You've done a really nice job of customizing and improving the boat. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from it and expect you will.

Do you have a bilge pump? If, yes, you can pull the transom plug on a warm day and allow enough water onboard to see if the batteries' location impacts your background flotation location array.

Eric,

I've put a lot of thought in what I want and how best to accomplish it. So far, things have been working out as anticipated. I too expect this hull to see a lot of use during the year. I may even reduce my fleet by a couple boats that don't see much usage.

My grandson enjoyed the ride and fishing adventure. Started off from the ramp and went downstream a ways at full throttle. Slowed down to an idle to see if he was OK with everything. (he is 7 years old) He turned to me with eyes wide as saucers and said "awesome!". That was before he caught the first and only fish of the day. [sly]
