Traveling Decoy 2018-2019?

Hey there,

Who would be interested in being part of a Traveling Decoy this fall? It's been a couple years since we did this but I think it would be cool to get it going again. For those of you unfamiliar, basically a decoy maker forum member donates a hand made decoy, it gets shipped from host to host, hunted over by the host and their friends. They sign the decoy and enter anecdotes into a journal, and post pictures and stories here on the forum. At the end of the season the decoy and it's journal get auctioned off to help support site operating funds.

Anyone interested in donating a stool or hosting? Shoot me an email to TravelingDecoy@gmail.com

A bit busy but if the interest it there I will add more details.

Best
Chuck

I?ll put in a Shang style broadbill. I?ll take a pic when I get home.

I put a drake mallard last time, we are planning to be in southwest Oregon after Christmas. Nothing is set in stone, we moved our dredge job to start in October and moved our phrag mow jobs to December. Nikki will probably take a short extension till Jan 1st.

Is there a possibility that my bird could end up out there for the end of the season and I could hunt with a local? I?m going to need some new hunting buddies anyway.... I have lost to many to their girlfriends. Lol

I would be honored to host one mid Oct. I could even show a decoy what it is like to hunt on a week/ work day heehee.

Really enjoyed participating in the past and would be happy to do it again this season!

I'd love to host. Week after Thanksgiving, I'll be hunting Vermont with John Bourbon, anytime in January, hunting VA.

Alrighty, time for a few more details, perhaps spur on some interest from those that don't understand what this thing is all about...

We will be taking one hand made decoy (made and donated by a site member) and shipping it around to members who will hunt it throughout the US and Canada. They will record their adventures both in the journal and right here on The Page and at the end of the season we will have an auction, winning bidder getting the decoy with the signatures of all the hunters who gunned over it as well as all the battle scars, and the journal record of all the memorable events of it's journey.

Two ways to participate:

First off CARVERS, we will need a decoy. Chris' stool sample is great, but everyone likes options. Post up and let us know what you will be willing to offer. Photo's are great...helps to get us all excited. If you have something in the works that you would like to share, keep in mind that the journey will need to be underway by October 1st at the latest. We will get together a pool of all the decoys offered and put it to a vote to decide which one will go. I am targeting a vote for September 13 - 16.

All other members, we need host hunters. Any active member of Duckboats.net is welcome to host. I will be taking reservations on a first come, first served basis. If you want a chance to be a part of this, email me at TravelingDecoy@gmail.com Subject: HOST. Let me know when you'd like it. The greater flexibility you have the more likely I'll be able to fit you in. If you have a special hunt/trip planned, let me know the dates and I'll do my best to accommodate that. If you will be hunting with other members, or passing off the decoy to other members that live nearby, that is great as it will allow for more members to be involved with less "box time".

Any more questions, post, PM or email me.

Thanks
Chuck

Earlier the better Chuck. Early teal started here last weekend and MN duck opener 9/21/18. If I had a decoy to contribute, sure would but mine are all store bought and plastic. Not much hand crafting happening there. Thanks again for doing this, it is one of the highlights of the season opening the box to see the donated decoy and then getting an opportunity to hunt over it.

Hosts so far:

Dave Diefenderfer with John Bourbon, VT
Carl Ferraro, AL
Mark Wollner, MN
Tom Scholberg with Pete McMiller and Tom's BIL, ND
Braden Maddox, TN
Dani with Steve Sutton, FL
Chris Finch on the Wet Coast
Craig Falcon, NJ

I'll start putting a preliminary schedule together, might still be some room. Email me and I'll add you to the list if you are interested. I go first come first served, but if you are more flexible in the schedule I may still be able to fit you in.

Anyone else want to offer up a deek for consideration to be chosen to travel? I think I will move up the vote to Sept 13-16 and then whatever deek is chosen can make it's way to Minnesota for the opener with Mark.

Thanks
Chuck

I would be interested in hosting anytime late December to January 27, 2019 slot if available. Any other central WA mid-Columbia River forum members interested in passing on or teaming up if a slot is available?

Should be wiggle room early season but my guess is late season is booked up at this point.

I was just hoping on hunting with someone else in the late winter not hosting. I?ll be in scouting/figuring stuff out mode this winter(I have to find some spots for harlis that don?t involve a 6 hr drive). I won?t really be set up enough or have enough knowledge yet. You can give my spot up for someone else.

Sorry John, full up for late season.

I still have an opening for end Oct/beginning of November if anyone is interested.

Anyone else interested in offering up a deek, will start the vote in the morning.
