New dog update

A few months ago we adopted a six year old Boykin Spaniel from a rescue group. I think he may have hunted some released quail once or twice but mostly he was an out of shape Florida sofa dog when we got him. I slowly got him into shape and started taking him out with some other dogs that know the drill. He just sort of hung out with us while we were hunting at first but after he stumbled into a few pheasants and I dropped them over him, it was like the light went on. He looked at me like "So this is want you want me to do?" There's no stopping him now...he has turned into a pretty good pheasant dog. He and I have killed several old long spurred roosters on public land this week by ourselves. He has muscled up and barrels right out the door and leaps into the back of my Jeep when it is time to go. This evening he found three birds in just a few minutes on a piece of ground near town that gets pounded hard. He gets better each time we go out. He is a very sweet, smart dog and my wife and kid adore him so I guess we got lucky. I will introduce him to the boat and ducks next year. Any other Boykin fans on this site?

Thats one of the neat things when your working with dogs. The light goes on. They finally know what their out there for. Their whole adtitude changes

I have been hunting with a dog I found under my lawnmower about 5 years ago. She was just a drop off pup that was in bad shape. My wife nurse her back to good health. I am a very avid hunter ,we dove and duck hunt at least 5 days a week and she hangs in there. She does I think a very good job ,dependable ,and loyal. She looks and have the same traits as a Chesy.Plus she will not take any sh** from any dog. But I will never know what she is but Sally a black dog that we found under our lawnmower.
