Whitney scull boat

This is a rare find- an original Jim Whitney 2 man scull boat made in Maine. Approximately 16 feet in length, and it has all it's original pine planking construction (one repair evident) oak frames and pine decking. The classic sweeping lines and sloop-style stern with the sculling oar hidden under its profile is without parallel in scull floats anywhere. The "Cadillac" of scull boats. (The oar opening has a threaded brass screw in insert to prevent water entry when not in use). Oar locks, used for rowing out to the gunning areas, are evident.

The boat is in excellent original condition-some nail caulking in the plank nail heads has fallen out as you might expect for a boat of its age.

It has always been stored under cover in a barn for decades and hasn't been in the water since the 1970's. However all the planking appears remarkable tight and the boat exhibits no rot.

This style of scull has, of course, been copied in fiberglass but this is the best original pine planked Whitney that I have ever seen.

Great looking sculler, I remember a old member from here had one on his suburban out at the West Lake Show years ago, It was all glass. Who is the maker of the Sneak Box in one of the pictures?
