Yesterday was Otter's second hunt. First out of the boat. One 1 shot was fired. A woodie sailed to the prairie that was adjacent to the to the trees/shore we were against. Otter didn't see the bird go down. We walked toward the area the bird went down. I told him "dead bird".. and he went off... Nose inches off the ground... And he was covering ground at a fast pace. He was about 20 yards from where I marked the bird going down.... Sure enough, he comes running back to me with a juvenile Drake woodie. He dropped it at my feet. And it ran away. I didnt think it was that lively. He went. And got it .. and held it a bit tighter this time... And put it in my hand.

The way he was covering ground, I would have thought that he was a seasoned upland hunter! There here a few shots from other hunters after that... Every time, it looked like he was scanning the water for birds... Just to get him out if puppy mindset and into a working/hunting mindset... and to stop trying to eat my blind ...

I was at a tiny 135 acre lake that I haven't hunted in 18 years. It is only 20 min from my house and the Mississippi is up 4-5' so I thought this would be a good idea. With a body of water this small, there are not many spots. There was another group that were putting their boat in as I was pulling up. They drove 2 hours to hunt here!?!?!?
