Dog ramp for layout

So, I am about to mount the Momarsh dog ramp. I am really not wanting to modify the ramp too much, as I may want to use it, in it's intended way some day... If I leave it stick out 8", I will just bolt it to the deck... But will that be too much overhang me able to support hunters climbing in too? I suppose I could mount it under the layout ... Or should I put wood supports under the tubing on top... I would rather not cut it down.View attachment IMG_20181014_103850344.jpgView attachment IMG_20181014_103844205.jpgView attachment IMG_20181014_103832576.jpg

Rather than cut the mount, how about taking out two rivets and removing it all together. Replace it with a shorter modified version to fit the mounting space you have available. What size tubing is the portion which needs modified? I've got some pieces laying around which may or may not work for you. I don't have a source to bend or weld any aluminum (just so you know).

At least you would still have the original part to reinstall later if so desired.

That was the original idea... I don't know ow why I forgot that idea.... This is steel... But... That is the best solution.

I knew I liked you for some reason...

Edit... The reason that I am going away from that, is that I would have to cut the mess/canvas

I was wondering how you were going to get in and out of it in anything over knee deep water. How about a std. boat ladder, something like this https://www.amazon.com/M-ARINE-BABY-Stainless-Telescoping-Ladder/dp/B071R1QKVN/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1539545164&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=boat+ladder&psc=1

Well... I am sure the dog will need the ladder to get in as much as the hunters. I have this ramp and will be using it.

So I have to make brackets to make this work, and cut the cloth... Or figure out the best way to mount it as is...

Can you post a photo looking directly down with the ladder in position? Trying to get another perspective of what you are dealing with.
