Great find, Mike!

I'm wondering, though, if that off-kilter motor board would make her veer to port. Just right for the NASCAR circuit as is....

All the best,

I imagine it would lol! I wonder why it was like that to begin with

Michael,
Nice find. What a nice little.... boat 1942 a treasure for sure. Although,, I don't understand the reason for the offset motor mount?

I don?t either.. it was originally set up to sail so maybe that had something to do with it. But not bad for 600 bucks!

Good morning, Mike~

The offset motor mount is not a problem - mostly because this is a displacement (not planing) hull. The boat is pushed through the water, not up on top. And, yes, it was probably put there to clear the rudder for sailing. Numerous small sailboats (like O'Day Daysailors) have OB wells off to one side of the rudder.

As a side note, many/most sailing sneakboxes (at least those built for gunning) offset their centerboard trunks to keep the cockpit clear. It appears to have no great effect on sailing capabilities.

This one (p. 213 in Chappelle's American Small Sailing Craft) has the trunk just to port of the cockpit coaming:

Finally - because it's a displacement hull - a 6-horse is probably sufficient for this vessel.

Could be cuz the gunner sat on the port side of the back deck to run the heavy motor with his right arm and hand. Just a thought, cuz outboards back in the day were heavy like my 1955 Johnson 5 1/2.

That's a mighty fine vessel ya got there. ENJOY!

I have seen some sailboats that have leeboards which are all the way to the side of the boat and they sail fine too.
