Shocking Surprise

Opening Day was a big surprise to me this year. Here in my home town of Athens NY . At four thirty in the morning at our boat launch. There is maybe three or four hunters going out on opening day of the second half. This year there were fourteen boats and trailers. All Duck hunters, I could not of been more happy for our sport. Young and old , big time boats and little jon boats. It was like I went back in time. I really enjoyed talking to the hunters and looking at their rigs before they took off. There were lots of ducks and geese reported in the area. But still most of the bays were packed with hunters decoys. I wanted to share this with you all. Because I know a lot of us think our sport is on the down hill side. But seeing this many hunters in such a small area was a good sign. If you asking me. I talked to other hunters up and down the river and they reported their areas had a bunch of hunters also. View attachment Anthony.jpg

That's good to hear. I live in one of a few states that has seen a tripling of state stamp sales in the last 15 years. The deep south may be the last part of the country where youth are highly involved in hunting.

I?ll second that. While it?s back below ?Duck Dynasty? levels, no shortage of duck hunters here in coastal AL.
Some days we seems to have more hunters than ducks!

Here in NJ, it's gotten a little crazy with the amount of boats that show up in one spot. I guess maybe it's because we don't have a terribly big area to hunt. I try to avoid opening days and hunt during the week for that reason. It's very crazy to think something like that occurs in NJ. These are also spots in very populated areas as well.
