Early teal hunt

Sometimes it seems as if Chip should be getting tired of retrieving teal in this unbelievable concoction made up of 3 to 5" of water on top, followed by 15" of a soupy silt and under that some soft clay. I have watched him spend a considerable amount of energy for each of the retrieves he made. After our hunt was done I would look at this mud caked pup of mine try and wag his tail. The poor guy must have weighed an extra 5 pounds at least. From where I hunted teal, I would get him up on the seat of the Mule with me and race off to the Rio Grande. I found a nice hole about 4 feet deep and that is where I toss his bumper maybe a half dozen times. This was my way of getting all the caked mud washed off.

Come the following morning, I found him raring to go just like me! Life is Good and I look forward to our long season just so I can pace myself a little better. I do know my limitations and the list just seems to get longer with each passing year. Saying that, I don't mind at all because for some inherent reason, I can still put ducks down. Those 4 eye operations that I had back about 8 to10 years ago were really worth it and I can only thank my lucky stars and guardian angel that I found a great ophthalmologist when I first met Dr. Himmel in Albuquerque, NM. I know I need to thank my cardiologist, also. Well, that is another long story.

I am hoping that this turns out. I need to preview what I have done. All I can tell you is how much I enjoy having Chip by my side. Soon Habi will be with me. I'm thinking she will be ready to go around the middle of December. Maybe by then the ranch honey hole will be filling with water.

Carl, I sure hope that I won't have to bother you again for all the help you gave me. I appreciated what you did. Thanks so much. I think I figured this out---kind of.

This was the way Chip looked about 2 weeks before the early teal season began.

Thanks, Carl. So far for this duck season he is spoiling me. Chip happens to be the first male that I have trained to hunt. Now I am wondering why I waited so long.
