Locking up fast this week!

Seems like the freeze up is happening in full force this week! Got out yesterday afternoon to see if any new birds were in the area, hoping for geese specifically. I ended up at one of my favorite late season spots, had to break ice several times to get there and was fighting ice in the decoys all afternoon. True to form the geese were there but didn't show up until 5 minutes after shooting. The ducks were more cooperative, I love those big winter mallards! Also got bombed by goldeneyes all night, at one point I had about 25 of them in the decoys, I love watching them swim around and they make way better live decoys than dinner! Hope everyone is having a good late season, be careful, this is a great time of the season but also the time with the most hazards to be aware of. Have a safe and fun late season everyone!

Cody, I agree with your GE assessment, particularly when you toss-in the number of shells expended per bird retrieved!

When I attempt to sneak some breasts in our meals Karen invariably stops chewing and tells me she has a breast that is freezer burned. I know it isn't the storage and prep., but the species being consumed that is the issue!

Love the scenery Cody. Still in the high 30's to low 40's here and the ducks seem to be scarce. I'm off for the last two weeks of the season, hoping some migrators show up to share the river with me.

Thanks guys, I hope so too Zane! As of last night this spot was totally frozen over and a lot of birds have moved out of our valley, time to start heading over the the Great Salt Lake.
