For almost forty years. The small club I belong to have been making and placing wood duck boxes. Up and down the Hudson Valley here in upstate New York. In and around the Hudson River. We have placed over a thousand boxes over the years(Last year sixty boxes this year fifty). With some great success. Great success to me is to see some of these boxes product wood ducks. There is nothing like seeing you helped increased the duck population. Over the years we have failed many times with with these same boxes. But getting ten or more percent out of them is a big success. Some years we have had forty percent other years not so good. But if it was baseball we be in Cooperstown in the hall of fame. My point is you help one wood duck make it.You get five or six or even more. If there was a way to help all the duck population. Like you can help the wood duck and a few others breads. There would be so many birds. That hunting season would be great every year. Spring is just around the corner. Make a few boxes in your spare time. There is really know wrong way. Put two or three together, wood ducks love company. You can make a big change in your wood duck population. View attachment December 2018 photos from Galaxy 1144.jpg

Anthony-I know the guy that heads up the Maryland wood duck project. There is some great info on the Maryland DNR web site. They do not put them on trees anymore, they mount them on a post with a predator guard. They get around 90% success on boxes that are used with that set up.

Thanks for the post, I have seen their website. They do wonderful work for the wood duck. Here in the Hudson Valley in upstate NY. We are on the Hudson River. We have placed many wood duck Boxes on post in the back of bays on the River. But almost every year they get taken down by ice. So that why we put them on trees with good success. In the swamps and lakes and creeks we use the post system with really good success.
