Snow geese
Well its getting close to that time of year. When I head out to Western NY for snow goose action. Anyone out there spot any on their way back. I thought maybe with the last warm front we had that they might be coming back early this year. I know we have some snow coming on Tuesday here in the Hudson Valley in Up State NY. Can't wait! still love just seeing those birds in big numbers.

There are a good number of snow geese in the Lehigh Valley. I was out that way a couple of times last week and saw them while traveling. My folks went to the airport out there in the middle of January, and they told me they saw them also in corn fields, they had never seen great flocks of snow geese before and asked me what they were. We are not getting them in good numbers along Delaware Bay for the last few years. There has been little snow cover and ice for most of the winter, it seems like some of them never went further south.

I have not seen a whole lot in the lehigh valley lately. There were quite a lot right around Christmas. Of course I haven't been out and about the last two weeks since our seasons closed. I'll let you know if I get a chance to get out and look around this week. I'd imagine the quarries are holding good numbers as usual.

When I flew into Allentown airport back at Christmas 2015 I was amazed by the number of snow I saw as we came into land. Back when I was growing up in PA in the 80s, we never saw snows. Just lots of Canada?s.

As I am sitting here on my lunch break my wife texts me that the flock of snows the annually migrate here are chilling in the fields behind my house.
Yesterday they were down the road on a grass runway for a crop duster.

Used to get close to 50-100 thousand wintering. Lately it's been between 5-30 thousand.

Maybe if they are still out there and the ditches ain't too full from the rain then I might try to sneak some.

Carl, same here. I grew up in Northeastern Pa, even the Canada's were mostly just passing over heading south. I first remember seeing snow geese in the early 90's, my father would stop along route 100 so we could look into the old quarry by upper Macungie park. It would be loaded with them.

I grew up between Hazleton and Mountain top. Drums was the name of the town. Back then if you blinked at the wrong time you'd pass right by and not even know you missed it.
