Homda Outboard owners?

I am looking for amy input good/bad on Honda outboards.
I will be purchasing a 90hp tiller this spring.
Either Honda or Merc but I can get the Honda for lower price.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Bruce,
I ran a 2002 Honda 40 tiller on a 16' semi v, fishing all summer and a heavy blind every fall. Motor had all kinds of torque and would lift 2 guys, dog and gear and run in the upper 20s, would do 30 with just me. They're built tough! Traded it last year and kinda sorry i did (a guy really should have a second boat as a spare). The only mechanical issues were from running 10% ethanol, (had to have the carbs cleaned) and from smacking a wing dam. Can't say the motor was at fault in either case. I've run Mercs, OMCs, and the Honda and I had the least problems with the Honda. Biggest issue might be dealer availability if you travel.

I run a 40hp tiller on my commercial skiff, tons of hours, thousands of shifts, lighter in weight to other 4 strokes, and all servicable parts/filters are out in the open so you don't have to take the cowlings off, I'm on my second one, and won't run anything else. I have most of the commercial guys around here switched to, or about to when theirs are ready for replacement, from 40 to 150's, absolutely no complaints, very few service issues, look at any pictures of boats, marinas, in Alaska and see what motors they run.
I think their warrantee is now 5 years for rec's, I'm surprised the merc you looked at was more money, usually the Hondas are a little more then other brands.
Like any 4 stroke, do the regular oil changes, put a Racor fuel filter/water separator on the boat and use a ethanol treatment in the gas, I treat every gallon that goes through my motor with the blue Stabil, run it like a normal human being and it will last. Any questions let me know, good luck.

I run a 20 year old 35 hp and a 15 year old 130 hp. I change the oil, gear oil and Racor filters each year and the water pumps and thermostats every three years.

They start and they run. No significant issues except a little carb cleaning on the carburated 35 hp.

I would buy Hondas again.

A buddy re-powered and sold me his old "08 Honda 135 hp. 1750 hours on it, purrs like a kitten and the fuel economy is unbelievable.
