20g Recommendations?

So it seems that I've won a DU gun raffle. I'm thinking that I'd like to get a 20g gas/auto for my boys. (6&8) because they'll be ready sooner than later.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'd go for a gas gun for the light recoil, and for kids that young, you want a youth sized gun. There are a pile of used Remington 1100 youth guns kicking around, and I think they still make new ones.

Another good option, though I don't know if they are available in youth guns, would be something in the Beretta 390/3901 line.

Lots of other options out there.

Weatherby SA-08? Synthetic ($649.00) adjustable stock so they can shoot it from Jr to Adult. Awsome little gun. Never had a single issue after the first box of shells.

I am with Jeff,
A lot of Remington 1100's around and if you look at action sites you can get them for 350.00 to 450.00 all day long. Parts are everywhere if needed.

I agree, and from youth to geezerhood they do the job just fine.

Best regards

all my boys started with the 1100 they have some weight to them helping to absorb the kick .also Remington still makes a 1187 as well .

I've never personally owned a Rem 1100 in 20 ga. 0nly 12gage. I highly recommend one to anyone though. I have heard that the smaller Gage guns really run best if kept clean. I put a light film of Break Free CLP on the magazine tube of my gas guns & they run like a watch. Break Free was designed for the AR15, it lubricates the action/magazine tube ,protects from corriosion, yet gunpowder residue does not stick to it. Youth stocks are available, or you could look for adjustable(length) trap style stocks. Bear in mind that Remington 20 ga. 1100's come in standard, light 20 and special field models, parts may not be interchangeable between them, but in all reality I don't see how you could go wrong with any of them.

My choice would be the 11-87 Remington 20 gauge youth model. Pretty much the same gun as the 1100 but it can shoot 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

So it turns out that I have to either buy a gun off the DU list, or take the cash and buy what I want.
The Stoeger M3020 is on their last, anyone know it?

I see that it does come in a youth version but its recoil driven , not gas. Some of the technology borrowed from the Benelli recoil operated shotguns just made from cheaper materials. I,d take a hard look at Weatherby,s SA08 in 20 if I was in the market for a youth gun that can follow them and adapt into adulthood. Lots of good reviews out there for it. Price point not much different than the stoeger. Check Buds Gun Shop out. Purchased a Win. 20 gauge SX3 from them last summer and things went very quick & smoothly.
