It's spring and I like fishing.....but,

Need to stretch a trot line between those trees in your yard!

Has the river crested?

I threw a crankbait out there last night and a Bass came out of the water about 3 feet away and laughed at me. I went back to my Bud Light!

River won't crest for some time. It's still coming up. We can take 15'. 16' and the yard is covered and it's time to head for higher ground. The travel trailer is loaded and ready to go and have a destination so we're good. Part of living on an island. You love it for 9 months a year and well, you clean up the other 3 months!...lol. The longer the weather hold and we stay dry the lower the predictions go. Lets hope the April rains hold off until May.

That's quite the sight! I imagine your yard will appreciate the added nutrients once the water recedes.

You'd be amazed at what will be growing when the water goes down but mostly crab grass...lol

Yikes Ed. Fingers crossed y'all don't have more rain

Trot line idea was in my head too but I see that Carl beat me to it.

Hi Dani. My license expires this weekend. I need to go get my new one soon. Was impressed with that Redfish you were holding in the other post. I catch a lot of those fishing the Mangroves in Tampa Bay but never close to that size. It had to be a blast catching that.

Ed- catching the big bull redfish is a ton of fun. A good number of them spawn in the St Johns River in Jax and between August and November they can really stack up in there. The water really whips through the river when the tides change and it takes about a pound of lead to keep the baits down on the bottom about 40 ft down. We usually pick up whole blue crabs and set a couple of rods with half or quarter chunks of crab and then on my piddle fishing rod...also weighted with a pound of lead and an itty bitty tiny hook with a small chunk of shrimp...I would fish for grunts and croakers. Then we would also set those out on two other rods. Some days the reds want crabs. Other days croakers or grunts or ladyfish chunks. But when they are on, HOLD ON!! We had super heavy duty rods so we never had a long long fight as we didnt want to tire them out, just catch and release. But lordy are they fun.

I miss that fishing in Jax.

Keep your boots handy Ed, La Crosse has a 12 foot flood stage and were at 13.7 with 15 expected next week. weather service took flow rates off the depth chart today but the last I remember was 130,000FPS at the 12' stage. Its boiling pretty good below the locks today.

Stay dry,
George

WooHoo...we're still dry. The gage showed 13.5' this morning when I left for work. We're suppose to crest this Sunday at 14.8' barring any weather. 15.8' and we'll be in hip boots but hey, that's living on the river. 16.97' condemned the house in 2001 and since then raised the house. I feel fortunate so far. Now if April decides to be a gully washer month.....well?
