TUCKERTON SHOW - September 28 & 29

Good morning, All~

I just got my application for the 37th ANNUAL OCEAN COUNTY DECOY & WATERFOWLING SHOW - aka "Tuckerton".

http://www.oceancountyparks.org/frmSpecialEvents

I have mailed off my application and check. I will be bringing a bunch of stuff and I plan to include a Gunning Box (Coffin). I sold 3 - in various stages of completion, from thatched up and ready to hunt to just the main "hull" pieces sawn to size - to a friend 2 summers back. So, I am currently sans coffin.

I have made one significant change since I drew the plans for my first one circa 1980 (drawn for "publication" in 1981). I have widened the floor dimensions near the shoulders. This gives a bit more room, but - more important - makes it easier to bend the bottom, sides and chine logs during construction. It should still drag and tow as before - and it still comes out of a single piece of 1/4-inch plywood. When I build my "replacement" this summer, I will post the steps here as usual.

This is the last one I built - with the new dimensions.

Finally, since I will be at the Show all weekend, I plan to enter some birds in the decoy competitions. I'm thinking at least one duck and maybe a shorebird or two.....

Hope to see you in September!

All the best,

SJS

Steve,
Love the gunning box. I have a bunch of left over quarter inch exterior ply from past projects. Maybe I can squeeze in a build one weekend in between all the other projects. I have two BBSB that need my attention; trying to make them a priority this summer then a host of other stuff. It seems like a soon as I check a few of the list more projects get created.
I really need to make it down this year. I think it was seven or eight years since I was last there. Such a great event and would really like to put some faces to the duckboat.net names.

Good morning Steve. Are the new dimensions you speak of for constructing gunning box in your present tutorial plans or are you intending to add them after your up coming build?

Very cool Cap'n!

Thanks for sharing. I do appreciate the shoulder space etc your larger box offers and my guests really appreciate the space. I like your original design for my and most of my crew's stature and compact situation on the meadow. I'm thinking the larger box with a 1x1 situated on the floor for the heal of shorter gunners will give some nice options with the larger box.

Hope to see you there if not sooner!

Tom
