Only Minutes From My House. Let the Deliverance References Begin!

Seriously though, one of the boys is having surgery today to repair a shattered orbit and there are some pretty black and blue boys and shook up girls. This story should generate a lot of local interest. For the life of me, as an adult, I can't imagine beating a teen boy over a smart ass comment (if that's even what started it). Good grief it was a river float, why would it end up like this? The only thing that could bring me to violence would be immediate certain injury to myself or family member brought on by another, e.g., "stand my ground". I envision this being a case of a drunk saying to himself "nobody disses me and gets away with it", that on top of liking to fight. Pathetic.

Sad thing is, it could have been a lot worse, no mention of guns or knives.

There are two sides to every story..............and then there is the truth.

Sounds like the young man was fortunate not to be hurt even worse. Stupid situation.

Watch some road rage videos on YouTube and after no trivial thing starting a fight will surprise you. A quick honk is now reason to pin someone's car against the curb and get out wanting to fight. Non-confrontational people seem to be rare these days.

If anyone had a gun during this melee it probably would have been used. Now the teens have lawyered up and I bet the older assailants wish they had cool heads instead of hot ones. They are looking squarely at criminal and civil charges and I bet they both stick.

Peta would provide legal council on their behalf.

Such a sad reflection of today?s society.

Unfortunately I think the victims will have a hard time in court. Underage drinking, they yelled back and the old he said/she said routine. Not saying it is right, just making a prediction. They will have a better chance with the civil suit is my guess.

I personally hope the little bastards have the book thrown at them. Getting away with crap like this just emboldens them and their friends even more.

One of the teens dad is a prominent lawyer. I believe he has the knowledge and financial resources (connections too) to make life very hard on the defendants, even if they don't get a criminal conviction.

I know many people do not believe this, but everything I have read suggests that bear spray is more effective than either hand guns or shot guns in getting you through a bad encounter with a grizz. When I was on my Yellowstone trip last year, an elk guide was killed, and his client severely mauled, when they surprised a grizz that discovered an elk they had arrowed before they did.

Neither had bear spray. At least one of them had a handgun that did them no good.

On the other hand, I think some of the Canadian provinces require a firearm in grizzly or polar bear country? A buddy is doing a float trip in northern Ontario this summer and they are required to carry a shotgun and an electric fence to surrround their camp. the trip ends at Hudson Bay, where polar bears are seen by almost every party.

Yep, I agree on just about all counts. I am actually doing a side project on defense against bears (firearms, spray, fences) with a student to set myself up for a potential year sabbatical on Alaska to collect data, so I have read all the published work on the topic.

The research supports spray by a fair margin and for our family each of us always have spray on hand (on belt actually). I like a gun in the mix for times when it is better than spray and a long gun is a total pita (done that). Big fan of spray here.

Oh the story from last year. I have read the press stories and all the official reports. Spray or gun were not readily available. Guides Glock was in pack without a round in chamber and client was unable to operate gun. Client threw gun at guide and jumped on a horse to get out of there. Guide was found dead the next day after having deployed spray. Spray residue was on sow and it may have deterred further attack, but guide died anyway.

Now we are talking. I hope the little bastards get what they deserve and more. I just know the criminal "justice" system can at times be anything but.

That is pathetic. Anytime you have a situation where adults are are harassing teens-because they are bigger and stronger-is cowardly. I don't care if the teens were drinking, there is no excuse for chasing these kids down the river and beating them up, if that is what happened.
