Alumacraft Ducker-Air Boy Motor mounted

That is really cool. I'd love to see a video of it running. Can you believe our WMAs prohibit airboats but not mud motors? I don't think they had a model like yours in mind when they banned them but still...

I wonder if there's a loophole in the WMA regs for hair dryers ?????

I, too, would love to see it in action.

The man in the photo is the one who I was hearing years ago. I met him recently and he told me about these motors he had. He said they were really fast on the ice and that you had to stop them a long ways from open water or you'd be going too fast.

Eric, what is the thought behind banning air boats on WMAs?

The WMAs are not large enough to hold ducks if they are driven away with noise and commotion. We are talking 10,000 acres, not square miles like some places on the gulf coast where they are used. The reg has been around for over 30 years and now that mud motors are widely available the possibility of someone actally using an airboat seems pretty slim.

Personally, I'd love to see mud motors banned up here. Seems to be the Extreme hunters that have them and most of these guys are clowns. I have most always paddled but on occasion use my Grumman Sport Boat with a 6hp. Hunt more of the "Motorless" areas now and tend to meet more hunters than 3-1/2" shooters. Just my .02......Darrel

The ban on airboats south of I-10 in AL had similar aims but also we only have so much salt marsh here, running airboats all over it would soon result in damage to what little we have.
There was also local opposition when guys first brought them in from LA & south FL, my understanding is that the locals backed the DNR when it was passed. Most still do.

Some of our WMA,s have banned any motor other than electric trolling motor during waterfowl season. One in particular is Deal Isl. WMA. which is a large area of sheltered salt water marshes.
