Urban Turkeys

Never saw one until I was in my twenties, now they're everywhere and like pets in our yard. Cool thing is that poults roughly the size of those in your photo can fly into a tree.

Very resilient. A healthy population in Staten Island NYC.

Not much gets your heart going in overdrive when you are expecting a covey of quail to flush or a single pheasant and a whole flock of turkeys bust out from under your dogs nose.

Cute little bitty turkeys

The greatest comeback of a game animal I,m aware of. Becoming similar to resident geese in that they,re adapting easily to populated areas that offer little predation. Wish the quail population in my area could make such a comeback but I don,t see it in the cards. Always enjoy listening to that return to roost call on a summer evening.

You'e got them up at camp in Maine, too. I've seen them in the Forks/Jackman area a lot. Sure they are over in Greenville, too.

Funny you mention it Jeff. My wife is there and saw a hen and brood in the access road yesterday, the first we've seen close to camp. We've seen turkeys a few times in downtown Greenville, I suspect somebody feeds them.
