Supposedly the best kennel on the market. Made great in the USA and super safe for your canine friend. I was on their website earlier today. I'm purchasing two of them this week.

Sonny, Steve and I have talked about new kennels because it truly can get unmanageable with a couple bird dogs in the truck that are super excited about going hunting. Like all bird dogs, they seem to know when we are cruising vs going hunting. It is an even bigger headache when you are the only person hunting and driving and you have an excitable crew so we have both decided we need to have a containment system for our four legged partners. Ruff Tough (RoughTuff...however it is spelled)and Gunners came up as possibilities for portable kennels.

We looked at the features of RoughTuff vs Gunner. Gunner you likely would not need a kennel cover except in the most extreme cold weather because of them being thick rotomolded. Roughtuff was still recommended to have a kennel cover. Down here in FL we do not worry about cold too much. And certainly not about dogs in kennels. Heat is more an issue. I have heard the doors on RoughTuff kennels are not as robust as Gunners. Without having seen a Gunner in person I can?t speak to that. Roughtuff comes standard with a plastic/polymer door but I know there are metal door options if you have a big chewer. Not sure on the Gunner.

Both kennels come highly recommended by many people. In quality and safety.

I ended up going RoughTuff for a couple of reasons: price and availability. I could get the roughtuff at BassPro. I picked one up on our way up to pick up Belle to bring her back from the trainer. As far as quality, it seems quite well made. I have waaaaaay more confidence in it keeping a dog safe than my two piece blue pet porter airline approved kennel if we were ever in an accident. And if I need to buy a second one when I get my lab puppy, then I will have gotten two kennels for the price of one Gunner. Or very close to.

More than likely you cannot go wrong with the Gunner Kennels. They seem very well made and they come highly recommended by many people. But so do the RoughTuff Kennels for a much lower price.

Look for an Airborne Aluminum kennel, often for sale on craiglist or dog trainer website classifieds. They are VERY well made.

One other considerdation: If you are considering whether to spend $600 for a largely plastic dog crate, why not go this way?

I've had both the RoughTuff & Gunner, I still have RoughTuff. The Gunner was too big for my new company vehicle. That's the only downfall of the Gunner in my opinion is the inner vs outer dimensions.

"When you're hunting, you have to be ethical. You have to come to terms with the impact you have on other creatures, but I'm afraid we're seeing a new generation of hunters who are disconnected from tradition. Half the time, they don't even know what they're shooting. They're so obsessed with the latest gun, the latest camo pattern, and they think you're some kind of sissy if you don't get your limit."

They spell it "Ruff Land". Wink hahaha
I have no idea why but they recently changed the name. I always thought it should be Ruff Tuff but it was actually Ruff Tough. The company is about 20 miles away from me. My dogs grandmother is in some of the early promotional videos they put on youtube.
