A book dedicated to the Wood Duck & Mandarin Duck

For all those that appreciate these waterfowl I do believe that you will enjoy this book. It has been in my library for many years, and was purchased back in the day when book dealers were a major draw at the decoy shows.

Once the trout fishing slows down due to the heat of July, it's time for me to carve & paint during the middle of the day. Which means time to dig through the library, and books strewn about the house/studio, and shop.

Reached for this one this morning, which means a reread and inspiration.

Having been close up in pens with both I share your appreciation of them. It is amazing how vocal they can be, all the little squeaks, squeals and whistles that can't be heard from more than a few feet away.
Very cool birds that are also beautiful.

Great book, Do people even read books anymore Wink. Wood Ducks are a gift from God. Mandarin ducks are the same. The prettiest of all waterfowl birds if you ask me. And the easiest to help. Thanks for the post my friend.

Nothing beats first hand experience. To hear and enjoy all their vocalizations must have made you smile.

My personal experience with the Mandarin has been limited, and the book helped to educate me.

As for Wood Ducks, I'm always in awe of them. Especially when I see a pair fly and perch in a wide branched Sycamore.

Best regards

For sure books have gone out of style, but not for me. A lot easier on my eyes than a electronic screen..Wink

You are the NY Wood Duck Man, and for that I thank you. May you have many more years to continue your work.

Thank you for your nice words. I try to do my part to help. But if it wasn't for the help of some really caring people. It never would get done. I may not do it the same as others. I try to put out as many wood duck boxes as I can get. I still put most on trees and do not use guards on all the boxes. An yes we have had great success. Their are know guard in hollow holes in trees. And yet wood ducks still use them. Putting them on poles with guards are a great way to do them. True! but when you deal with tides an ice like we do here in the Hudson Valley on the Hudson. It not a great idea. I have lost many and I mean many boxes because of ice and tide. When we do swamps or creeks that is the way to go. The best really to help the birds from danger. But I believe great number in the right spots will work just as good. Your one of the best people on this site. With all the great wisdom you put out. Thank you for that. God Bless and keep the faith.
