Ocean gunning

Nice videos Chris, that looks like a lot of fun. You're crushing the blackfish, you got some real nice ones. Nice striper too. You must bang up your spear in those rocks pretty quick? I didn't see any seals, do they ever follow you around looking for a free meal? There's plenty in the general area.

Nice videos. I see you're using a Mako gun. I just recently got one and am impressed so far. Breath hold looks good, especially for the cold water. Does visibility in the area you're hunting ever improve?

Those were super shallow areas you don?t really need a breath hold. It?s 65-70 now. Ct vis is garbage all the time RI/NY is better

Mako is good for the money. I?m going to make a hybrid pathos gun soon

Interesting. I'm in NY, but a good distance away from the ocean. I'm new to the sport and have done it just a bit while visiting California. That's why I purchased the Mako, for the next time I go to CA. I'd certainly be interested in trying to get a fish or two in NY or CT. If you're willing to share any spots or advice, I'd certainly appreciate it. I don't know where to begin as far as regulations, finding a place to go, wetsuit thickness, etc.

Regs are stupid every state is completely different. Ct is open till sept, then again in the fall. Ri opens in aug I think through the end of the year and ny only has a fall season. You can skin dive now (at least for a little bit) I run a worn out 5 in the summer and switch to a 7 after thanksgiving( ct used to go 1/2 way into dec. I have been in Oregon/Washington the last 2 winters and run a 7 there. We planning on heading west in November. (Diving is way more interesting there, and there are more invertebrates to see/collect)

Just be careful it can get dangerous fast. Try to always have someone with you. If you make it down to ct while I?m still out I?m sure I can get you on some togs. There are everywhere as you saw.

Wow, you really get around with your spearfishing. I was in Monterey last year where I got introduced to the sport. Diving in the kelp forests and then hunting through them was awesome. I'd love to take you up on the offer of some spearing in CT but I don't think I'm quite ready yet. I still need to acquire a bit more gear and knowledge.

Most shore access are shallow and easy. Mako makes good gear for the money, if you buy a bunch of stuff from them they give you a discount too.

West coast diving is way better. There isn?t too much kelp in the winter but I?m just stoked to be in the water. I?d dive here in the 34 degree water if you could still shoot cod off the ri beaches like you used to be able too.

I?d even venture to say spearfishing is way better than duck hunting in ct. I got out with a few guys duck hunting out west last year though, they actually have birds there lol! Might have to spend my winters ducking again haha!

If u get your stuff before I leave let me know I?ll get you on some chinners. Or maybe we can meet up on the west side.
