Getting ready - HIP & Duck Stamp

Good morning, All~

I just ordered my NYS Licenses - so I went ahead and got my new HIP and my Duck Stamp.

One thing I have done in the HIP era is to print out my HIP number on a piece of card stock - then affix (and sign!) my Stamp on the reverse side.

There's really not enough space on the NYS License for both - at least not legibly. The HIP/Stamp card stows in my wallet right next to my license - and my sunrise/sunset table.

All the best,

SJS

Interesting concept Steve and very classy. I always thought the Federal Stamp had to be affixed to your license and signed in ink.

It's a challenge to get the Federal Stamp on my non resident Michigan license so I put mine on the resident paper Indiana one.

Good morning, Rod~

Affixing one's Duck Stamp to the license is one of those Popular Misconceptions - which just won't die, it seems. No such requirement.

On the other hand, the Duck Stamp MUST be signed across its face - so it cannot be swapped amongst gunners I believe.

All the best,

SJS

The post office I visited today did not yet have duck stamps in. Apparently I was the first to ask this year. I imagine they will arrive soon.

I like that hip idea, I always write it on my stamp. And keep a copy in my boat in my ammo box. I tried to order my licence on the DEC web site this week. But the site been down. Went to Walmart on Friday night and the same thing happen. Site was down again. So I be getting it this week some how. Already had my hip and stamp done. I also keep a sunrise /sunset table and also a tide chart. Thanks for the tips.

Good morning, Anthony~

I, too, used to keep the tide charts handy - when I lived on Long Island.

Hereabouts, we consult the USGS flow gauges later in the season - to see if our rivers are safe to hunt. Some of these big flows - especially after big melts - could wash us downstream - maybe right by your rig (100 or so miles downstream?)

All the best,

Been uncharacteristically busy this late summer, hence "forgot" to pick up my Federal stamp. (State stamp is available on line). I attended our local State Park Reservoir blind drawing Saturday morning, and the current license, state and federal stamps are required to enter the lottery.

Off to the races, two post offices, where I was told- we dont cary them anymore, because they don't sell. We ended up at our nearby Gander store, where I was taken care of.

BTW, I drew a blank on the lottery drawing...

Since there is no Dove season in NY and I am in no rush for the Sept. goose season. I buy my license Sept. 3rd. at the town clerks office across the street, and then walk a half block to the PO to get my duck stamp.

New hunting regs book will not be out until Sept. 1st, I was told by the NY DEC.

I write my HIP # on my duck stamp card, and license. Place license & duck stamp in a clear fishing license holder that fits in my secured shirt pocket. Have not carried a wallet in years, damn things are to bulky and easy to loose.

Success at a different post office today. Purchased two duck stamps. The clerk told me the story of how a few years ago a gentleman came in to purchase a duck stamp and a goose stamp. He wanted to hunt both ducks and geese, so he believed he needed a goose stamp in addition to a duck stamp. Can't argue with that logic.
