Bird dog!

As is my custom when having a litter of pups in our Puppy House, once they are done eating, I open the door to watch them do what puppies do. We have this one male who decided to walk up onto the patio and do a little investigating. He stopped and looked up. Right where his gaze took him was one of our hummingbird feeders with about 8 hummers looking for supper. I got lucky when I snapped this shot of Hershey.

Such a beautiful pup! Looks to be a very solid body dog, how old is he Al?

Benjamin,
He had his 6 week shots on Friday. Small litters tend to weigh a bit more than a normal litter of 8 pups. This tyke weighed 11.95 pounds.

Afternoon Al,

Great looking dog. Heading to Saskatchewan and will send some birds your way for the Special Teal Season.

Bird Dog for sure.

Good morning, Vince. I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed the picture.

Our early teal season starts on the 21st and we haven't had a rain here, since March. The one before that I believe was last October. The Rio Grande stopped flowing down here since all the water in it is used for irrigation. Looks rather bleak, but if there are a few pot holes left when the season opens, I hope to be at one of them.

Al -

The water situation in your area does sound bleak indeed. Hope it ends soon so the birds as well as yourself, and the dogs have places they need to be.

We have no early Teal or Dove season here in NY, even though the birds are here. Squirrel season is in though.

Lots of rain last night. Enough to fill the water buckets my wife places under the roof gutters that overflow, to use on our small garden.

Fall is in the air, with some crisp nights. Fly fishing for trout, steelhead, and salmon ready to kick in.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Best regards
Vince

Great picture, Al. From that pose it looks like maybe Hershey has some pointing instinct. Those hummers certainly have his full attention. I agree that he looks and acts alot older than 6 weeks of age. Does he have a prospective owner yet? Sandy

Thanks for the comments, Sandy. I did some digging and found some pictures of Hershey's mom, Caya, when she was 13 weeks old. I had been out hunting on the morning of January 4th of 2015. I took the baldpate that I had taken and gave it a toss to see what Caya would do. Here she is. By the way, in that shot where she has a feather in her mouth and is looking skyward, just at that time there were at least two waves of light geese heading back to Bosque del Apache NWR. There had to be at least 3,000 of them and of course as they flew south you sure could hear them. When I looked at the pictures it just makes me think that the gene pool looks pretty tight! Caya is just about 2 weeks older than her son, Hershey, when the pictures were taken.

Dennis, best wishes and luck of the Irish, when you are in Saskatchewan. Make sure to take some pictures!

Afternoon Al,

Hope to take a few photos. They have been getting rain on and off for the last week and the harvest is behind schedule (2 weeks).

Always fun no matter what the weather is doing.

Dennis S.

PS: Will be keeping track of your litters just in case it will match my time frame.
