Wood Duck Paint Colors

As I often do, I just got an inquiry for the "paint schedules" - this time for Wood Ducks. I took some time last Winter to organize my hard drive so my Behr (sample jar) paint schedules are all within one folder (of course, sub-folders for Geese, Puddlers, Divers, Sea Ducks and another folder for each species).

These are E. Allen decoys.

So, here's the Drake:

TIP: Keep his sides subdued. I see lots of decoys with "yellow" sides - much too vivid.

Here's the Hen:

I typically save these images, then print each full size of 8.5 x 11 card stock for reference in the shop.

All the best,

SJS

Steve,

How do you come up with these colors to match the feather colors? I commend your effort putting this together and sharing it .

I really enjoy painting drakes but the hens are absolutely intimidating. And every time I think I have a paint job I like, I pull out the real thing and see how far I missed the mark.

Steve,
Your generosity to share your work is greatly appreciated! I was going to repaint some woodies so this info is perfect timing .

Thank you Steve!

I have a pair that are getting close to paint. I doubt they'll be ready for the season opener here next Saturday, but likely soon after.
