Pre Season Kickoff!

"Sweet Louisiana". She has pulled on my heart strings and called to me every Fall for the last 20 years. A week ago she blessed me with the opportunity to pay her a visit and enjoy the end of early Teal season. A bad day at camp and push poling a pirogue in the marsh beats the best day at work!

We have two more months to make it through hurricane season, I pray every day that we make it unscathed as our fragile marsh looks GREAT and loaded with SAV! We ate like kings and enjoyed harvesting what I call the "Cajun Trifecta" =Crabs, Fish and Ducks......this truly is Sportsman's Paradise.

I hope to one day experience Louisiana teal season. Congrats on a dream trip; my how every part of this country is so beautiful... well the natural parts, cities not so much.

Hunting in shorts. What is that like? Opening day up here in MN we could maybe get away with it but if it is warm enough for shorts, the bugs would eat us alive.

Looks like a great weekend. What kind of crab is that?

We hunt barefoot and in swim trunks! Mosquitoes by the millions so we drench in 40% DEET bug spray and some mornings we can't run them off even with a Thermacell burning. Shortly after sunrise the skeets just seem to disappear.

Those are boiled blue crab, fine sweet eating meat.

Cast and blast and trap? Cast and blast and pot? What do you call a crab catching device down there? Looks like the makings of a fine meal.

We just call them crab traps. Nice haul of crabs. They are a lot of work but very tasty.
I didn't hunt teal here in FL this year, but if I had, it would have been in shorts! Hottest driest September on record.
