Steve Sanford, South Shore Waterfowler's Show

Phil~

Yup, I'll be at Cedar Beach Sunday morning. Bringing my new Gunning Coffin and a customer's South Bay. And I'm bringing rain gear....

I believe I've missed only 2 Shows since they began 39 (?) years ago (before Tuckerton). I missed the very first one because I was living in western NY and I also missed Superstorm Sandy. I had actually driven to Long Island the day before - but headed back north before showtime on Sunday morning. A wise decision because all bridges around NYC were shut down just a couple of hours after I crossed over the Throgs Neck. I believe the Show was held the following Sunday - but without me.

All the best,

SJS

Steve

In a typical year how many exhibitors are there and how many attendees? What about Tuckerton? I'm not comparing the two, I'm just curious what kind of support these gatherings get. Thanks.

Good morning, Eric~

The SSWA Duckboat Show & Waterfowl Festival is a small fraction of Tuckerton - basically a product of location. Just as tidewater Jersey has many times the saltmarsh as does LI, so, too, does it have many times the gunning population. I am guessing it is a tenth of Tuckerton.

Another key difference is administration. The SSWA show is strictly volunteer. Although it takes place on Town of Babylon property, the Toewn plays no other role. The Tuckerton show, on the other hand, is run - very ably and enthusiastically - by Ocean County staff. I know spend many months each year in preparation.

There is a handful of commercial vendors at Cedar Beach - but I am always too busy otherwise - and, of course, I rarely buy anything new.... There are perhaps a dozen tables that sell old decoys and gear - more up my alley.

BTW: The forecast is for 100 % rain all day Sunday, with a southeast breeze.

All the best,

SJS

So I guess they will move it to the following Sunday?

I did not make it to Tuckerton this year but heard it was not as well attended as years past. David sold 4 boats at the show but he said Tony was there and delivered / sold 12 or more boats.

It will be interesting to see how the Easton Waterfowl Festival does this year. November 8,9 and 10th

Good morning, Phil~

The SSWA board will decide sometime Saturday morning whether to proceed or postpone. I will post here as soon as I know.

(I cannot make the following Sunday)

All the best,

SJS
