Nikon question

What is it that the D3100 won't do that she wants it too? I have the Nikon D5100, same vintage as yours. I only use it to a fraction of it's ability but love it. Knowing some things now that I didn't know then, I probably would have looked into a better zoom lens but I've been happy with what I have.

that is the right question. and what type of photography is she doing?

there are so many cameras out there today, and its hard to find bad one.

I still carry an old D5300 as a bang around spare in the gear bag with the lenses for my D500 - it can take good pictures if I do my part
BTW - I also still regularly shoot a variety of film cameras for some fun projects - Nikon, Lieca and Mamiya - so - I may not be able to talk anyone out of buying a camera no matter how flimsy the excuse [;)]

Oh come on now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, That's akin to asking "What's this new gun going to do that your present one doesn't? Are the ducks going to be any more dead?"

She is looking at the D7500. Its weather sealed which is important for the wet coast, the iso sensitivity is better for low light conditions when the sun doesn?t pop through clouds for a few months.

While it might not make ducks more dead it will allow for better pictures of the ones we harvest. We all like new toys

Does anyone have experience with this one?

Chris,
My comment about the Ducks being more dead, was in reference to the buying a new shotgun, comment. My intent was to say, if she wants a new camera she wants a new camera.

no, but it gets good reviews, shares a few parts with the D500- unfortunately not the buffers or the focus system, but the one it has is not bad,

I know lol

I just don?t want to insight a riot will span multiple social media platforms such as the infamous ?painted gas tank? debacle.

Ok I?ll let her know to investigate that.

I have a feeling this could get out of hand quite quickly, but what hobbies don?t! I?m not big on taking pictures but I do enjoy looking at them. So it is nice having a photographer with you most of the time.

No matter how much she spends on a camera and glass - she isn?t going to be able to make you look good.

I'm currently looking at photography toys as well. All the rage from the people at work and my scuba photography peeps are the mirrorless cameras.
I know it's not a nikon but Sony is releasing the a7iv something or other .. that is supposed to be the cats meow
Weather sealed and 61 mp

Chris
Lots of factors to consider
What lenses does she have? Are then made for cropped sensor or full size sensor?
What glass are they? 50mp without the best glass, lines of resolution and refraction can become an issue in image quality
All the manufacturers use cmos chips from one or two manufacturers
So it comes down to processor speed, focus points and focus speed, buffer etc.
If she has lenses get the body they work with
If she needs lenses buy the best glass and keep using the body she has until it?s in the budget for a new larger mp body
I believe Nikon mirrorless has a different lens mount
