Scared twice in one day

Hunting has been excellent the past week. And the best part is I can now go as often as I want and. It hurry back due to some work meeting or plans to catch.

I have been trying some different places prior to the last couple of weeks due to my favorite spot being filled in due sediment that flowed downstream when a dam was removed. It ruin a very nice and close spot.

Last week I thought I would cruise out to this favorite spot after sunrise to take a look around. As I thought, you t had filled in even more. Where there used to be a 20 yard stream was now solid ground. Or good. I set up and watched the show as there were a few ducks around.

Today I went out again as yesterday was one of those days where there were hundreds of ducks and they all came into to the dekes with wings cupped and feet down. I set up In a different spot as the other day I was in knee deep muck.

As I was getting the boat off the trailer I left it roll off as usual. Grabbed the line to haul off n the boat and it came off the boat. Almost was I. Water over my waders but I caught it in time. Very lucky. I remember a few years back when the boat slipped away from the landing and starting floating down the river. The local police and mayor got involved and helped rangle the boat boat back.

The second scare occurred as well was picking up the decoys. Went to grab the e and immediately went over my knee in quicksand muck. I was stuck bad. One foot was good and the other not at all. I tried everything I could think of to get loose and was having no luck. After 20 minutes or so I was able to get one leg out enough to get on my knee and put more surface area down. Eventually I was able to get free. All this in water that was 2??s deep.

Here are a couple of pics of the place. Everywhere you see land was water before the dam was removed. Just a couple of very small waterways left. The good part with all of this change is no problem me else hunts there anymore. It is hard to get to and you really need to know where you are going.

Below freezing weather predicted for the next week so I think duck hunting will be shortened this year.

Being stuck in the mud is no fun, I think we've all been there at least once.

Glad you came out ok and had some good hunts.

Being stuck in the mud sucks. It's extra scary (to me) when you know the mud you're stuck in is in a tidal zone...

Glad you got unstuck though.

I hunt a lot of land locked ponds in the salt marsh that have a quicksand type of bottom.I use a wading pole sometimes but I often thought of adding a toilet plunger to the bottom of my wading staff to help me when I get stuck my hunting partner thought I was joking.
