Slow morning,,,,

That sounds like an early start to what Mother Nature calls winter. Hope you do get into some. Best of luck, Dave.

It been one of those years here. The Ole Mississippi has been extremely high all year. Resident goose hatch was a wash out this spring. Not many resident ducks in the area either. I've scratched out one Mallard so far this year. I thought when the freeze up happened last week we'd see more ducks on the river but nothing showed up. After looking at the IA DNR Nov 13 migration report just not may ducks and geese in the area. Hopefully the reports of large numbers of ducks still in Minnesota are true and they head down before we do freeze out. Still have almost 4 weeks of duck season. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Ed,
Picked up one goose yesterday the 18th. A single responded to my calls , swung around and I picked him off as he was landing in the full body decoys set up on the sand bar.
I had goose heart last night for supper and the legs are in the crock pot today.
I'm set up this morning at a new location which usually has better duck action.

18...good job! I haven't had a goose close enough to shoot at since the early season. Pool 16 has a small number of geese...?.sitting in the yards of river homes. They get up and fly a couple of times a day to the Iowa corn fields and then right back to their roost I did a little scouting yesterday. Started on the Iowa side long the Mississippi River from Princeton Marsh north to Grove Lake then to Goose Lake (where you and I met one morning years ago) to Green Island Marsh. All but Green Island are froze up. You could see a trail in the ice from someone that had gone on in the morning. Then I crossed the river at Sabula, IA and headed for the Spring Lake area boat ramp. I saw a hand full of ducks flying and six geese. Then I headed for what they call the Thompson Causeway at Thompson, IL. I saw some Mallards around the camp ground and some divers sitting out on the pool. To far to see what they were with my binoculars. Then I headed for Mickelson's boat ramp in the Potters Marsh area. There were a few trucks in the lot. I saw some swimmers but they may have been coots. I heard some geese but didn't see them and I saw some ducks flying over the pool. I then headed for a private marsh my buddy hunts and has taken me a few times this year. All frozen. That took me to interstate 88 on the Illinois side. The Rock River has been out of her banks most of the summer as well and there are 100's if not thousands of flooded acres of farm fields. I saw several hundred geese sitting on ice in flooded fields and maybe 500 ducks sitting in a strip mine off the interstate. That's my report for November 19th, 2019.The rain has finally stopped and I think I'm going bow hunting.
